What to eat after delivery??

I’m sure you already have a lot of people advising on what to eat and what not to eat isn’t it?

But how complete and authentic is that information is my matter of concern! So let’s have an overview first on why post pregnancy nutrition is so important?

  • I know now that you are a mother all your thought processes will start with the baby first, (chuckles). So the most important reason for good nutrition after pregnancy is that your baby will still be on mothers milk.

  • To bring back your weight to normal.

  • To meet up the additional protein and calorie requirement.

Since you will be breast feeding your child after delivery your calorie requirement increases tremendously. For an average woman who exclusively breast feeds may need nearly 300 calories more to her normal requirement.

And for mother who mixed feed or just give 1-2 breast feeds a day they may not need any extra calories. In such situations adding a healthy snack of drink in between the meals should help you.

There are a bunch of foods items like caffeine, alcohol which mothers may have to restrict so that they don’t experience bloating, dehydration, or an effect on the flow of milk. How much should a mother restrict this intake to depends on a number of factors , consulting your health care expert can help you in such situations.

The requirement of nutrients like Vitamin D , Vitamin C , iron , calcium , omega 3 fatty acids and fiber is also high. Therefore adding foods rich in these nutrients is equally important.

Let me put across a quick food plate that you can refer to keep your meals balanced.
